The Therapy ABC – Wellbeing: Mental health
According to the World Health Organization, mental health is “a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.”
Good mental health in conjunction with physical health helps people to cope better with problems and unexpected obstacles. It also affects a person’s productivity at work. Employees with good mental health better cope with stress and rarely experience burnout.
What is affecting mental health positively?
- Self-esteem – our positive self-image and sense of self-worth;
- Feeling loved and respected;
- A good relationship.
Such factors as family breakup or loss, illness or abuse could affect your mental health negatively.
